Thank you for joining me last week on our Small Town Businesses series. Today we're talking about the thing that fuels us all: food. And festivals.
Every year my town holds a street fair and BBQ cook off. Companies and individuals begin the night before smoking their hogs, some even sleeping in the street beside their smokers. Last year by 10 am all but one vendor had sold out of pork ribs already. You gotta get there early. Here is a clip of me eating my prize, grateful to have found one person remaining who still had ribs available.
I look forward to more of these sticky ribs. My husband and I will be hitting the square before 10 am this year to have our pick of the best ribs of the year.
Last year we enjoyed wagon rides,
music and dancing,
and, of course, ribs!
We also made a visit to the pre-game festivities on Friday night where we watched more dancing and music. Our excitement grew as vendors set up booths and those in the hog cooking competition got ready for a long night of smoking some BBQ.
The Street Fair starts this Friday night, October 12th. Local shops around the square will be open. Vendors selling local crafts, baked goods, ice cream, funnel cakes, cotton candy and ribs will surround the square. The history museum will also be open for free tours. A hot rod car show will fill the public parking lot behind Butlers.
If you're a local, join me as I scavenge the street fair this year for ribs, homemade cupcakes and a great cup of joe from my friend, Deborah's, coffee shop. Remember to check out our featured shops from last week's Small Town Businesses series for great coffee, food goodies, gifts and decor ideas.

Royal Gifts & Fine China
Vance Street Market Flower Shoppe
Locals from Wallace can check out the link for Southern Roots Florist. Even though her shop is not on the square in Clinton, you can still get an idea of her style by stepping into her mother's shop, Vance Street Market Flower Shoppe, and talk to Dana there.
Now, let's hear from you. Does your town hold a fall event, festival or fair? What is your favorite part of the event? What's the best thing you've ever eaten there? Post the answers in the comments below or leave them on my Facebook or Twitter and Let's Talk!
