What if you're a writer or publisher? What can Smashwords do for you? Well, Smashwords offers ebook publishing completely free. If you are comfortable on a computer and can follow directions, you can format your own novel according to their free format guide (available for download on their website) and upload your book and its cover from your computer. There is also a team available with individuals for hire if the work of formatting is not for you and you have some extra money you're willing to spend on your novel. After you publish your novel, there is also a free marketing guide (also available for download on the website) that will help you take advantage of what Smashwords has to offer and get your book in front of audiences. I love the step by step guides they offer and that publishing is possible for EVERYONE that wants to share their book with others, even if you have NO money.
Tomorrow, the Smashwords annual Summer Sale begins (for those south of the equator, it would be the Winter Sale). You will find books 25%, 50% and 75% off. There will also be many completely free (in addition to the already 77,000 free books) that you can snatch up during the month long sale.
My children's story, Betty Butter will be available for download for free starting tomorrow until July 31st. I'll give you the sale link when it goes live. For now you can check out the link to the book and download a sample if you want to wait until it's free. There's a fun interactive recipe at the end of the book for parents and kids.
I'm looking forward to this Summer Sale, not just for the chance to offer a free month for Betty Butter, but to check out some free books for myself. I have a few favorite authors on Smashwords, such as Cindy M. Hogan and Susan Clayton-Goldner that I'll be checking out tomorrow. You can read some of my reviews on Cindy's books in previous posts starting here. Review for Book #2. Book #3. Book #4. Well, that's it for today. I'll be back after the Summer Sale goes live to update you on the exciting sales going on. If you have any questions, you can leave a comment below or tweet me @BookTalkwithRR.
